Police are appealing for witnesses after reports an elderly man was found seriously injured in Port Macquarie overnight, NSW Police say.
Shortly after 11pm yesterday, emergency services were called to William Street, Port Macquarie, and found an 81-year-old man with serious head injuries.
He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Port Macquarie Hospital.
A crime scene was established and examined by detectives and forensic specialists.
Strike Force Merle has been established to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area of William and Short Streets, Port Macquarie about 11pm last night or anyone who may have information that could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers.
