Man injured with garden shears; another man charged at Wollongong

A man has been injured following an altercation with another man who was allegedly armed with garden shears at Wollongong last night.

About 10pm (Monday 23 December 2019), a 32-year-old man allegedly smashed a window of a unit complex in Church Street.

The 52-year-old male resident noticed a man standing nearby and a verbal altercation commenced between the pair.

The man ran from the unit complex and the occupant - along with two other men - chased him and as wrestled him to the ground.

The older man sustained a deep laceration to his finger and other injuries to his abdomen.

Three men retreated and contacted police who attended a short time later.

Officers from Wollongong Police District located the man a short distance away and arrested him following a short foot pursuit.

Police searched the man and allegedly located garden shears, a multitool, and a knife.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with reckless wounding and malicious damage.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 24 December 2019).
