Man missing after crash in western NSW

Police are seeking public assistance as they search for a man who is missing after his car was involved in a crash in the state’s west yesterday, NSW Police say.

Zachary Fitzgerald, 19, was last seen driving north from Mount Hope, south of Cobar, about lunch time yesterday.

About 11pm, his utility was located in the Yathong State Forest, off Kidman Way near Mount Hope.

The vehicle had crashed and rolled, and was significantly damaged. It appears attempts had been made to make repairs, as the car was found jacked up under the bull bar.

There was no sign of Mr Fitzgerald and he has not contacted family or friends.

Police are co-ordinating a search for Mr Fitzgerald, but are also asking for anyone who sees him to contact police.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 165cm tall with a slim build, red hair and a fair complexion.

Police believe he might have been wearing blue jeans, a fluorescent yellow jacket and a white Akubra hat.

It is unknown if Mr Fitzgerald was injured in the crash but police are concerned for his welfare, particularly as temperatures dropped to two degrees overnight and the area is experiencing heavy rain. The location is remote.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
