A man will face court today charged over the alleged murder of a man at Redfern two decades ago, and an armed robbery at Botany more than 15 years ago.

About 9.20pm on Tuesday 27 January 1998, Robert McPherson and an associate were walking along James Street, Redfern, when they were allegedly attacked by a group of at least six men, who were armed with baseball bats, a chain, a stick, and a knife.

Mr McPherson was taken by NSW Ambulance paramedics to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he later died.

About 7am yesterday (Wednesday 17 April 2019), a 41-year-old man presented at Redfern Police Station and was later arrested and charged with murder.

Officers also charged the man with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, over an armed bank robbery on Botany Bay Road, Botany, on Wednesday 6 March 2002.

He has been refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Thursday 18 April 2019).
