Man Remanded After South Melbourne Armed Robbery Attempt

Detectives have charged a man following an attempted armed robbery at a convenience store in South Melbourne last night.

Investigators allege that a man, armed with a knife, walked into the Clarendon Street convenience store about 6pm.

It is alleged that the man demanded that a shop attendant hand over cigarettes and cash.

The attendant refused to hand over any items before the man allegedly fled on foot.

No one was physically injured.

A short time later officers spotted the alleged offender on Park Street.

A man was arrested and clothing was seized from a nearby doorstep.

A 38-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with attempted armed robbery, resist police officer and commit indictable offence on bail.

He was remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
