Man rescued after falling while canyoning - Wolgan Valley

An experienced canyoner has been rescued after falling near Lithgow yesterday.

About 3.30pm (Saturday 12 December 2020), emergency services were called to Pipeline Canyon, Wolgan Valley, following reports a man had fallen.

Police were told the 62-year-old man was abseiling when he fell about 4m onto his back.

A Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was activated by a member of the group and rescue crews were dispatched, however, the man could not be extracted due to strong winds.

NSW Ambulance paramedics assisted by officers attached to Police Rescue and the Lithgow Volunteer Rescue Association stabilised the man overnight.

Following rescue efforts, the man was winched to safety by Ambulance Helicopter and flown to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition about 7.30am (Sunday 13 December 2020).
