Man's body recovered from Murray River at Barooga

A man's body has been recovered from the Murray River in the State's south today.

About 1.00pm (Tuesday 26 January 2021) emergency services were called to Thompsons Beach on the Murray River near Cobram/Barooga, after reports a man got into difficulties whilst swimming in the river.

Officers from Murray River Police District and Victorian Police, with assistance from the Barooga/Cobram SES, commenced a search of the river.

At the time then man disappeared there was a moderate current flowing to the west.

About 8.40pm members of the Victorian Police Dive Unit located the 35-year-old man, submerged in four metres of water, and he was declared deceased.

An investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A report is being prepared for the coroner.
