Man's body recovered from river at Corowa

The body of a man has been recovered after he went missing while swimming in the Murray River at Corowa.

Police have been told the man was with five friends about 1.30pm (Saturday 4 January 2020), when they entered the river and – over a number of hours – floated an estimated 5km from Federation Bridge to John Foord Bridge.

About 8pm the man was seen to go under the water and failed to re-surface. One of the man's friends tried to find him while another went for assistance.

The man's body was found by members of the Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA), a short time later.

It's believed the man is aged 50 and from Sydney's west.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
