A critical incident investigation is underway after a man was fatally shot by police in Potts Point.
Officers from Kings Cross Police Area Command were called to a unit complex on St Neot Avenue, Potts Point, about 10.50am yesterday (Tuesday 3 March 2026), following reports a man had entered the complex and assaulted two women.
The man then took possession of a knife from a kitchen in the complex and threatened attending police with the weapon.
Responding police deployed a Taser; however, this was ineffective.
A police officer discharged a firearm, shooting the man.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 41-year-old man but he died at the scene.
The two women - aged 47 and 57 - were taken to St Vincents Hospital in a stable condition.
It is believed the women were not known to the man.
A crime scene was established and an investigation commenced.
The investigation will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
