Man shot with spear gun - Avalon Beach

A man has been hospitalised after being shot with a spear gun on the Northern Beaches today.

Just before 5pm (Friday 2 August 2019), emergency services were called to Coonanga Road, Avalon Beach, following reports a man had been injured with a spear gun.

On arrival, a 48-year-old man was found sitting in a car with a spear in his abdomen.

The man was treated by paramedics and airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command established a crime scene and a police operation is underway to locate the person responsible.

Initial inquiries suggest the injured man had been shot outside a nearby home on North Avalon Road.

As inquiries continue, officers are currently seeking a man they believe can assist with their inquiries.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 190cm tall, with a slim build and dreadlocks.

He was last seen wearing a blue jumper and dark jeans.

The public is urged not to approach the man, but if he is seen contact Triple Zero (000).
