Man stabbed in Kogarah

Inquiries continue after a man was stabbed during a confrontation with a man known to him in Kogarah this afternoon, NSW Police say.

About 12.30pm today, a 39-year-old man was sitting at a bus stop on Station Street with a friend when a 30-year-old man known to him approached him armed with a knife.

Initial inquiries have led police to believe the armed man stabbed the 39-year-old once in the abdomen, before assaulting him and leaving the scene towards Railway Parade.

Emergency services were called and the injured man was taken to St George Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Officers from St George Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist them. He was seen in the area at the time of the incident wearing a grey shirt and blue jeans.
