Man stabbed, woman arrested in Camperdown

A woman has been arrested after a stabbing at a hospital in Sydney's inner west.

About 10.30pm (Tuesday 23 January 2019), police were called to a hospital on Missenden Road, Camperdown, after reports of a stabbing.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command attended and located a 45-year-old man with a stab wound to his back, before arresting a 29-year-old woman at the scene.

Police have been told both were in the triage area when the man was stabbed by the woman.

The pair are not believed to be known to each other – the man was taken to the hospital from Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for unrelated treatment, and the woman brought by ambulance from a home on Burwood Road, Concord, for unrelated reasons.

The man remains in hospital in a stable condition after undergoing surgery.

The woman was uninjured and remains under police guard in hospital where she will subject to a mental health assessment.

As inquiries continue, the incident is not being treated as a targeted or provoked attack.
