Man to face court after seven-hour siege in Sydney CBD

A man will face court today after barricading himself in a Sydney CBD apartment for seven hours yesterday.

About 10am (Friday 13 August 2021), officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command attended an apartment complex on Sussex Street in the CBD, to assist in the removal of a tenant.

The man, a 45-year-old, refused to leave his unit when instructed and allegedly barricaded the doorway to prevent entry.

Specialist officers – including police negotiators – were called to the scene and about 4.55pm officers from Operation ODIN gained access to the unit and arrested the man.

Also inside the unit were a woman and child, who were not injured in the incident.

The man was taken to Day Street Police Station where he allegedly assaulted a constable by twisting his thumb.

He was charged with two counts of resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, assault police officer in execution of duty, and remain on inclosed land.

He was refused bail and will appear today (Saturday 14 August 2021) at Parramatta Local Court.
