Man to face court over armed robbery and stabbing at Wollongong

A man has been arrested and charged after allegedly robbing and stabbing another man in Wollongong on Friday night.

About 11.20pm (12 March 2021), a 53-year-old man was walking with his female partner through the Wollongong CBD when another man approached them in Atchison Street.

A scuffle occurred between the two men, resulting in the man suffering a number of stab wounds.

The man then grabbed the victim's mobile phone and ran off towards Burelli Street.

Emergency services were called and the man was treated at the scene by Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wollongong hospital for treatment. The man remains in a stable condition with non life threatening injuries.

Officers from Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, officers arrested a man at a unit in Kenny Street, Wollongong, about 8pm yesterday (Saturday 13 March 2021).

The 23-year-old man was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and larceny value

He was refused bail and will appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Sunday 14 March 2021).
