Man under police guard after fleeing crash at Albury

A man is currently in hospital under police guard after allegedly crashing his car and fleeing, leaving his passenger trapped.

About 7.30am (Friday 13 March 2020) a black BMW was travelling north on Wodonga Place, Albury, when it allegedly lost control while negotiating a roundabout and crashed into the back of a bus.

The driver fled on foot and was chased by members of the public, who detained the man until officers from Murray River Police District arrived a short time later.

The 38-year-old man was arrested and taken to Albury Hospital under police guard for injuries sustained in the crash.

The female passenger was freed after being left trapped in the vehicle with serious leg injuries.

She was treated at the scene, before also being taken to hospital with suspected fractured legs.

The bus driver and passengers were uninjured.

A crime scene was established, and inquiries are continuing.
