Man under police guard after women assaulted - Annandale

A man remains under police guard in hospital after two women were assaulted in Sydney's Inner West earlier today.

About 5am (Monday 8 February 2021), emergency services were called to a home on Ferris Street, Annandale, following reports two women had been injured.

Police have been told a man punched a 27-year-old woman in the head, before a 29-year-old woman intervened and was struck with a weapon, believed to be samurai sword.

The man fled on foot and the women went to another home on the same street to seek assistance.

The women were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where they both remain in a stable condition.

Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command attended and established crime scenes.

A number of items including a samurai sword have been seized for forensic examination.

Following patrols of the area, police arrested a 44-year-old man on Macquarie Street, who allegedly hid behind a parked car.

During the arrest the man suffered an injury to his elbow and was taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital under police guard.

The man and women are all known to each other.

Inquiries continue.
