Mandatory reporting of National Immunisation Program vaccines to Australian Immunisation Register commenced on 1 July 2021

Australian Medical Association

GPs should be aware that legislative changes mean that from 1 July 2021, vaccination providers are now required to report all National Immunisation Program (NIP) vaccines administered to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).

These changes are in addition to the mandatory reporting of vaccinations to the AIR that commenced in February 2021 for:

  • COVID-19 vaccines administered on or after 20 February 2021; and

  • influenza vaccinations administered on or after 1 March 2021.

Reporting vaccinations to the AIR ensures that the AIR contains a complete and reliable dataset to enable the monitoring of immunisation coverage and administration. It also ensures that individuals have a complete record of their vaccinations.

More information on the new mandatory requirements, including the list of relevant vaccines, the data elements to report, and how and when to report these is available here.
