Mangrove rescue, Helensvale

Police have released vision of a difficult rescue to save a woman stuck in the mangroves at Helensvale in the early hours of Tuesday morning (October 3).

Around midnight, police received a call for help from a 20-year-old woman who had been camping with friends when she became lost in the mangroves around Dalley Park Drive after she wandered from her boat.

The woman had attempted to traverse the thick mud in an attempt to find land but became lost in the pitch darkness.

An officer from Coomera conducted a foot search, navigating his way through approximately 200 metres of knee-deep, and at times waist-deep, mud and thick scrub for almost an hour to locate the woman.

The area she was found was incredibly isolated with zero visibility.

The officer then used the sound of a horn from a Police vehicle to assist in escorting the female back through the mud, at times needing to carry her, to safety.

The woman and officer were thankfully uninjured, albeit exhausted.
