Manslaughter Charge in Cootamundra Fatal Crash

A man has been charged with manslaughter over a fatal crash in the states south that occurred last year.

About 3.10pm on Friday 6 September 2024, emergency services were called to a property at Stockinbingal – about 20km north of Cootamundra - following reports of a young boy aged 2 falling from moving farm equipment.

The boy was taken to Cootamundra Hospital, where he died.

The 34-year-old man operating the equipment and a 3-year-old boy who was on the equipment at the time were both uninjured.

All persons were known to one another.

A crime scene was established, and investigations commenced by officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

It will be alleged that the man was driving an ATV, towing farm equipment at the time of the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, on Tuesday 29 October 2024 the man was issued with a Future Court Attendance notice for dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous.

Today (Monday 8 September 2025) an additional charge of manslaughter was laid.

The man is due to appear Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 17 September 2025.
