Marine Rescue at Gold Coast

Gold Coast Water Police have released footage of a rescue undertaken on Christmas Night, December 25, as officers continue to respond to calls for assistance following severe storms earlier this week.

Officers were conducting welfare check patrols near Crab Island and South Stradbroke Island around 11pm before they spotted the partially capsized yacht with two people still onboard.

Both people were helped off the yacht onto a water police vessel and were transported to dry land at Labrador.

Both people from the vessel were not physically injured.

Gold Coast Police are continuing to respond to ongoing requests for assistance following the severe storms that affected the region earlier this week, with fallen trees, powerlines and other safety hazards continuing to be observed.

Officers are continuing to urge residents to avoid driving, stay home if possible, and be aware of areas still affected by power outages. All attempts are being made by officers to attend locations that require assistance.
