Marine rescue in Kurnell

A marine rescue operation is underway on Botany Bay today, NSW Police say.

About 10.30am (Friday 29 December 2017), emergency services responded to reports of a capsized boat off Cape Solander, Kurnell.

Three men were reportedly on-board and a co-ordinated rescue operation run from the Marine Area Command rescue co-ordination centre and VKG radio in Sydney began.

Two men managed to swim to nearby rocks and were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and were taken to hospital in a stable condition. One man reportedly suffered a severed thumb.

A third man was rescued from the water by officers from a Marine Area Command vessel from Botany Bay, who commenced CPR, however he could not be revived.

When their condition allows, officers from the Marine Investigative Group will speak with the other crew members to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Anyone with information which could assist investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
