For this exercise, an incident on a passenger ferry off Wood Islands will be staged. There will be approximately 50 people acting as passengers on board the ferry requiring assistance.
Partners in the exercise include the Canadian Coast Guard and its auxiliary members, the Canadian Armed Forces, the RCMP, the PEI Department of Public Safety, which includes the Emergency Measures Organization, Northumberland Ferries Ltd., and ground search and rescue teams. The exercise will have sea, air and land components.
The Canadian Coast Guard works to ensure the safety of mariners and the protection of the marine environment.
Exercises like this are essential to maintain the skills of Coast Guard members and partners, and test the emergency response systems that are employed when a real incident occurs.
