Queensland Police have located a body after a search operation was launched for a man who failed to resurface at Manly Harbour overnight, January 1.

Initial information indicates that around 10:50pm, the 46-year-old man entered the water from a vessel in an attempt to retrieve an item.

The man reportedly surfaced once before returning to the water but failed to resurface a second time.

Water Police, Police divers and other specialist emergency services commenced a water search overnight.

This morning, a body was located in the area, and will now be formally identified and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

There is no further information at this time.
