Maroondah Golf Strategic Review now open for comment

To ensure a strong and viable future for golf in Maroondah, Council is in the process of undertaking a comprehensive review of its two 18-hole golf courses in Maroondah – Dorset Golf and Ringwood Golf.

Council has completed the first stage of its Maroondah Golf Strategic Review, with a full report now available

Following recommendations outlined in the report, community feedback is now being sought on Stage Two of the Maroondah Golf Strategic Review, which will help to guide the future direction of golf in Maroondah.

Stage Two of the review seeks to further explore ways in which Maroondah's two golf courses could be developed into contemporary golf facilities based on two proposed key elements:

  • golf experiences and facilities; and
  • sport and recreation opportunities

The stage one report, developed by WellPlayed Golf Business Consultants, identifies both challenges and opportunities for the future of golf in Maroondah.

While golf is a popular sport for adult men, it is under-represented in women, reinforcing the opportunity for golf to increase female participation.

To enhance golf participation and to ensure both facilities appeal to a broader audience long-term, the report recommends exploring alternative golf experiences, such as mini golf, driving range, and entertainment/hospitality options which could incorporate a virtual golf lounge.

Council has also recently undertaken a sports demand analysis, which has indicated there will be more than 46,000 people participating in more than 33 different sports by the year 2021. The analysis indicated significant growth is expected for soccer, basketball, and female sports participation.

You don't need to be a current golf facility user to have your say. We want to hear from all members of the community, as your feedback will help with the long-term planning of these two community facilities.

See our Maroondah Golf Strategic Review for the various ways you can have your say, including attending one of our drop-in sessions being held in November and early December.

Consultation closes Sunday 15 December 2019.
