A formal ceremony held this morning at Government House has officially welcomed Martin Dole APM as the 15th Commissioner of the Northern Territory Police Force.
The event brought together family, government representatives, police officers and community leaders to mark this significant milestone in the Territory's policing history.
Presided over by His Honour the Administrator, the Honourable Hugh Heggie, Administrator of the Northern Territory, the ceremony included the official appointment of Commissioner Dole, reaffirming his commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, leadership, and service to the people of the Northern Territory.
Commissioner Dole, originally from Alice Springs and continuing to be based there, today marks 29 years of service in law enforcement. He spoke of his deep respect for the men and women of the Northern Territory Police Force and his commitment to building trust, transparency and collaboration within the community.
Chief Minister and Police Minister Lia Finocchiaro congratulated Commissioner Dole on his permanent appointment, saying she looks forward to the stability, security, and certainty his leadership will bring.
"Commissioner Dole's appointment marks a new chapter for policing in the Northern Territory, as the force continues to evolve to meet contemporary challenges while maintaining its strong focus on reducing crime across the Territory."
"He has earned the respect of officers and the wider community through his dedication over 29 years and steady leadership as Acting Commissioner over the past seven months. My government backs him 100 per cent and his appointment brings confidence and certainty at an important time for policing in the Territory."
Commissioner Martin Dole APM said it is an incredible honour to lead the Northern Territory Police Force.
"I'm humbled by the trust placed in me and mindful of the responsibility that comes with it. The Territory is my home, and to serve its people - and the men and women of this Force - is the greatest privilege of my career."
"I intend to lead with humility, integrity and respect. Policing is about people - the communities we serve and the officers who protect them. My focus is on keeping the Territory safe and supporting our members to do their work with confidence and pride."
"I'm grateful to my family for their constant support, and proud to call Alice Springs home. Living in the centre keeps me close to the heart of the Territory - to its people, its challenges and its spirit. That connection will help guide me as we work together to build safer communities across the NT."
