Community members visiting indoor Council facilities like our libraries and community centres will be required to wear masks from 4pm today.
The return to mask wearing follows updated advice from the NSW State Government today. The NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said mandatory mask-wearing indoors and on public transport will be extended for another week from 4pm today. The rules apply to all Greater Sydney and Wollongong, and include mask wearing to go shopping, grocery shopping or indoor events.
"We've been through this process before and we all know the drill,'' Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM.
"This COVID strain of the COVID-19 virus is more transmissible and we need to please be more vigilant and cautious. It is unlike anything we've seen before and we've heard from NSW Health how it can spread with in the most fleeting of moments.
"For the sake of everyone in our community, it's essential we all do the right thing and observe the public health orders – especially past wearing and social distancing. If you have any symptoms, please get tested at one of the local clinics and don't delay.''
Council facilities where masks will be required include;
- Our Customer Service Centre within the Administration Building
- All libraries
- All community centres
- Wollongong Youth Services
- Wollongong Art Gallery
- Entryways, change rooms, waiting areas and customer service areas in our indoor pool, gyms and hall at Beaton Park and Lakeside Leisure Centres. Advice will be provided at each Centre on the requirement to wear a mask for specific activities.

Council staff are also modifying their work practices to allow for the changes and staff who provide face-to-face services indoors and are unable to meet social distancing requirements and don't have a barrier in place will be wearing a mask.
Cr Bradbery said people should also do the right thing and check in using QR code systems.
"I think it is fair to say that some people have become a little complacent when it comes to checking in at various venues and spaces,'' Cr Bradbery said.
