The Matildas have received a massive boost ahead of the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026, after first tickets officially sold out for the highly anticipated Group A clash against Iran at Robina.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering major sporting events for Queensland, with the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026 expected to generate $12.5 million in visitor spend for the State.

The match on March 5 next year is the first of the tournament to be exhausted, as the Matildas aim to do Australia proud and put on a sensational showing in an attempt to win the competition for just the second time.

The Gold Coast will be hosting other Group A matches, with Iran playing 2022 runners-up Korea on 2 March, the Philippines playing Korea on 5 March, and Iran playing the Philippines on 8 March.

The Crisafulli Government's Destination 2045 plan sets the blueprint to make Queensland the event capital of the nation to attract more visitors to the State.

Additionally, in another major boost for the Gold Coast, the two play-off matches, which will determine 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup qualification, will be played at Robina on 19 March.

Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander wasn't surprised the Matildas game had garnered such interest.

"Queensland is the home of Australian sport and there was never any doubt tickets to Australia's game on the Gold Coast would sell fast," Minister Mander said.

"The Matildas are one of our most followed and loved national sporting teams, and wherever they go, they capture attention and the impact of this team playing on the Gold Coast will be felt by the community for a long time to come.

"The AFC Women's Asian Cup is just one of the major sporting events the Crisafulli Government is bringing to Queensland on the runway to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games."

Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell said attracting and hosting successful sporting events were an important part of the Crisafulli Governments 20-year plan to position the state as a global tourism leader.

"The Crisafulli Governments Destination 2045 plan is focused on making Queensland the event capital of the country to attract more visitors and generate economic benefits across our State," Minister Powell said.

"A jam-packed events calendar makes our state more liveable for locals and attracts visitors and spectators who spend money on accommodation and in shops bars and restaurants while in Queensland."

City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the ticket sales would have a positive impact on the Gold Coast community.

"Gold Coast stadium will be a sea of Green and Gold come March with fans snapping up seats to witness the Matildas' take on Iran," Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said.

"The incredible uptake of tickets is great news for the game and for our local economy and I am excited to join the rest of the Gold Coast in cheering on the Tillys!

"If you missed out, make sure you get in quick to secure tickets to one of the other five AFC Women's Asian Cup matches being hosted in our city."

Chief Operating Officer of the AFC Women's Asian Cup Australia 2026™ Local Organising Committee Sarah Walsh said the sell-out was a sensational milestone for the tournament.

"The response from fans has been phenomenal," Ms Walsh said.

"To see the first ticket allocation exhausted already shows the incredible passion for women's football and what this tournament means to Australians.

"Momentum is building right across the country, and this is just the beginning as we know this will be a record-breaking tournament.

"Every match will showcase Asia's best players, world-class football and unforgettable atmospheres, so we're encouraging fans to get in early while great seats are still available."
