Mayor Statement - COVID-19

Undoubtedly the current unfolding story of the Coronavirus is concerning many members of our community.

Important decisions are being made by our leaders, based on advice from professionals, regarding our communities' health and safety.

Council has established a business continuity planning committee and we will be putting plans in place to ensure that we can continue to deliver essential services to the community.

It is likely that we will be inconvenienced in the short term, but we need to take a community long-term view and have respect for the decisions that are being made.

My advice for individuals and families is to:

  • Be mindful of the effect that 'saturation' of media and social media stories can have on you and your family, particularly young children
  • If you have concerns and worries, share them with friends, family or other people that you trust
  • Assist others if you can and be mindful of more vulnerable members of the community
  • Make sensible decisions in the best interest of your family
  • In the coming weeks there will be things that we can't do, so I encourage you to make the most of the things we can do
  • Take on board advice from health professionals
  • Stay informed - to monitor the situation and for up-to-date health advice, please refer to: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/

We have faced testing times before and this is just another hurdle that we can work through and come out the other side even stronger.
