Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill has thanked Townsville's selfless community of volunteers this National Volunteer Week.
"Over the past 18 months Townsville and North Queensland has not had an easy run of things – first we had the unprecedented monsoon and now the COVID-19 global pandemic," Cr Hill said.
"However, through all of this our wonderful volunteers have selflessly donated their time and resources to support their community and make our city the amazing place it is.
"This week will see our North Queensland Volunteers of the Year Awards held as a virtual event and while we may not be able to share the moment together it is important we recognise the contribution our volunteers have made in the community.
"On behalf of the city, I thank each and every volunteer for the work you do and continue to do because it truly changes lives."
