Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller has welcomed the choice by NSW Health of Liverpool Hospital as one of 11 vaccination hubs to distribute the Pfizer/BioNTechcoronavirus vaccine to select front-line health workers starting next month.
Mayor Waller said Council had already expected the vaccination to be made available to Phase 1a staff priority groups – who include ambulance and patient transport staff, emergency department staff, and critical care ward staff – at the largest standalone hospital in Australia.
"Liverpool Hospital is the right choice for the early availability of a COVID-19 vaccine to front-line professionals. We have been kept up to date via regular briefings from South Western Sydney Local Health District," she said.
"Liverpool Hospital serves the entire South West district. It is a major partner in the Liverpool Innovation Precinct even before its $740 million upgrade is complete."
Mayor Waller said Council will continue to offer all assistance to NSW Health with COVID-19 testing locations and during the stages of the vaccination rollout.
Other locations for the Phase 1a vaccination availability are Royal Prince Alfred and Westmead hospitals, followed by Hornsby, St George, Nepean, Newcastle, Wollongong, Coffs Harbour, Dubbo, and Wagga Wagga hospitals.
