Mayoral statement: passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

Flags lowered at the Civic-Centre

A statement from the City of Monash Mayor, Cr Stuart James

I join many others today in offering my condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the Commonwealth who grieve for a family member, leader and friend.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's presence was worldwide, but with 16 visits to Australia, we had a special connection to her. For many of us, after a reign of seven decades, this is the first we know of a world without her as our Head of State.

Flags at City of Monash buildings are lowered as a sign of respect, and Council is organising for condolence books at our Glen Waverley Civic Centre and Oakleigh Service Centre, as well as online on our website (see below) for community members to sign should they wish.

May she rest in peace.
