McCormick & Company Inc. will open a new environmentally friendly, multi-purpose head office in Australia. The new facility will create around 500-plus jobs during construction. It will open in early 2022.

A hub for innovation and collaboration

Based in Melbourne, McCormick's new multimillion-dollar complex will house the company's new Australian head office. The complex will also include a Technical Innovation Centre, a Logistics Centre, and new corporate offices.

The facility will be McCormick Australia's innovation and collaboration hub for staff and customers. Over 90 team members will work at the facility.

'We are thrilled to reach this key milestone in building the McCormick Australia of the future,' says Daniel Moorfield, President, McCormick Asia Pacific.

'This new head office in Mentone is symbolic of our business transformation over the last 4 years and our strategic focus on growth within Asia Pacific.'

Technical Innovation Centre to create new products

The Technical Innovation Centre will focus on creating new:

  • products for brands such as Aeroplane Jelly and Keen's Curry
  • seasonings for snack food manufacturers
  • sauces and coatings for restaurants.

Moorfield says Melbourne is 'fantastic' place to invest.

'Melbourne has first-class agricultural suppliers nearby,' he says. 'It also has a dedicated Australian and Asia-Pacific customer base, and a transport network that is among the best in the world.'

How Austrade helped

To support McCormick's reinvestment, Austrade assisted with expediting its application with the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB). The agency made sure the company was connected to the appropriate Victorian Government officials.

Austrade assisted with travel and visa advice for McCormick's Europe-based engineers.

Austrade also connected McCormick to the Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre (CRC). The CRC focuses on improving the productivity and sustainability of the Australian food industry.

'Austrade proved to be invaluable in assisting McCormick to navigate the FIRB process and applications,' says Paris Golden, McCormick Food Australia's Managing Director. 'It was during a very dynamic period as COVID-19 unfolded in Australia.

'With many time-critical variables emerging during that volatile time, we were able to successfully keep the project on track. We are thankful to Austrade for their advice and support.'
