The McGowan Government is delivering road upgrades at two key intersections in Armadale.
Traffic lights will be installed at the intersection of Tonkin Highway and Forrest Road in Hilbert, helping improve safety.
Between 2015 and 2019, there were 51 reported crashes at this intersection, with nine resulting in serious injury and one a fatality.
By installing these signals, it is expected right-angle crashes will significantly reduce.
A road safety assessment of this upgrade has an estimated crash reduction of 75 per cent for killed and seriously injured crashes.
Less than three kilometres away, another set of traffic signals will be installed at the intersection of Armadale Road and Eighth Road in Seville Grove.
Between 2015 and 2019, there were 32 reported crashes at this intersection, with four resulting in serious injury. Additionally, a fatal crash occurred at this location in March 2014.
With future developments planned for the area, increases in traffic are expected through this intersection and after ongoing consultation with the City of Armadale, traffic signals will be installed in the 2022-23 financial year.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Road safety is our number one priority and I'm pleased we have been able to deliver funds for these much needed upgrades.
"Thousands of people use these intersections daily and these safety upgrades will make a big difference to locals.
"By signalising the intersection of Tonkin Highway and Forrest Road, we expect immediate safety benefits, with right-angle crashes set to reduce considerably."
As stated by Armadale MLA Tony Buti:
"When completed, both projects will provide safer connectivity for a catchment experiencing vast residential growth.
"These upgrades are about improving safety, which means getting home safer and more time at home with the family.
"I have been approached on a number of occasions by my constituents regarding safety concerns for vehicles travelling into and out of Forrest Road and I'm glad to have delivered these upgrades."
