McGrane Oval Vandalism

Gilgandra Shire Council

Last week, McGrane Oval's cricket pitch received significant damage following reports of bikes/e-bikes and/or scooters being ridden across the surface.

This incident has resulted in substantial repair costs to ratepayers and disruption to scheduled cricket matches and community use of the facility.

Council's General Manager, David Neeves, says the incident is disappointing and impacts the broader community.

"Damage of this nature places an unnecessary financial burden on the community and affects the availability of public facilities. Council works hard to maintain these shared spaces for local use, and it's extremely disappointing to see vandalism of this nature, or of any kind within our community."

Adding,

"Local community groups and sporting clubs rely on McGrane Oval for regional competitive sport. The state of our facilities reflects the quality of our community. We ask that all users and residents treat our public spaces with care and respect."

Council has reported this matter to the local Police and is encouraging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

"Community awareness and reporting can help reduce these types of incidents. We appreciate the community's assistance in helping to look after our local assets."

Council will continue to assess the extent of the damage and schedule necessary repairs to restore the cricket pitch for community use.
