Meat valued at almost $350 suspected of being stolen, has been seized during a weekend high-visibility police operation targeting criminal behaviour on public transport in the Illawarra and Sydney’s south, NSW Police say.
Two people were arrested about 3pm on Friday (26 October 2018) after passengers alerted police to a fight in a carriage on a train between Central Station and Bomaderry.
A 32-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were removed from the train at Albion Park after a 60-year-old man was allegedly assaulted.
Witnesses told police the Callala Beach man was allegedly assaulted following an argument with the younger man.
The couple, from North Nowra, were carrying bags containing clothing and packaged meat – the latter valued at $340 – with inquiries continuing into source of the goods, as well as the assault.
Officers attached to the Police Transport Command (PTC) conducted Operation PTC Explorer on trains running between Hurstville and Bomaderry from Friday afternoon through to Sunday (28 October 2018).
Teams of officers from the PTC South-West Sector patrolled trains and assisted South Coast Police District officers at the Nowra River Festival.
Police conducted foot, bicycle and vehicle patrols of railway stations and bus routes in Nowra, as well as local licensed premises.
Three people were arrested with four charges laid. More than 30 people were searched, and 11 move-on directions issued during the three-day operation. Sixteen (16) transport infringements were also issued.
Operation PTC Explorer is a PTC-run operation targeting criminal and anti-social behaviour on the train network outside Sydney, with a focus on rural and regional areas.
