Melbourne homes in high demand with local and international filmmakers

If you're the owner of an interesting house in Melbourne, your home could star in an upcoming film or TV series if you register your details with Film Victoria.

As the state government agency that provides funding and support to the screen industry, Film Victoria works closely with filmmakers to source the perfect locations for productions, including private homes, and many of those found across Melbourne are in high demand with filmmakers from Australia and overseas.

"Melbourne's inner suburbs and surrounds feature a number of Victorian and Edwardian bungalow homes, which are proving really popular with international filmmakers in particular, because they can mimic the architecture of other cities and towns from around the world," Film Victoria's Manager of Production Attraction and Support, Joe Brinkmann said.

"In a globally competitive market, the diversity of our architecture and landscapes – along with the support offered by Film Victoria – make Melbourne one of the most attractive places to shoot in our region. The right location could double as just about anywhere – LA, England or even China."

Member for Albert Park and Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley said: "The Port Phillip area has stunning heritage and modern architecture that makes it such a great place to live and visit – it deserves to be on screens across the world.

Our screen industry is booming with Melbourne and Victoria in hot demand from local and international projects – the wider community can now get in on the action through Film Victoria's locations register."

Film Victoria is also seeking American style houses such as Cape Cod and Californian bungalows, Europeans styles like Tudor and English cottages, and art deco, as well as more modest family homes.
