Two men are expected to appear in court for alleged offences targeting AFP officers at Sydney Airport.
A Sydney man, 27, is expected to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (28 December, 2025) charged for allegedly driving his taxi at police yesterday (27 December, 2025).
Police allege that after they were called to investigate reports of two taxi drivers with barring notices, the man ran to his taxi and tried to leave.
An officer positioned an AFP marked vehicle in his path, but the man allegedly drove around it. Another member ordered the man to stop, but he allegedly continued to drive directly at the member, who drew their firearm, prompting the man to halt the vehicle. No firearms were discharged.
The man was arrested and taken to Sydney Airport Station. He was charged with the following offences:
- One count of use weapon to resist arrest, contrary to section 33B(1)(a) of the Crimes Act (NSW), which carries a maximum penalty of 12 years' imprisonment;
- One count of unlawful entry on inclosed land, contrary to section 4(1)(b) of the Inclosed Lands Protection Act (NSW), which carries a maximum penalty of a $1100 fine;
- One count of failure to comply with directions, contrary to section 39(a) of the Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act (NSW), which carries a maximum penalty of one year imprisonment and/or a $5500 fine; and
- One count of resist commonwealth public official, contrary to section 149.1(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth), which carries a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment.
In a separate incident yesterday (27 December, 2025), a Sydney man was charged with multiple offences after allegedly threatening to kill officers while being arrested for causing a public nuisance.
Police were alerted to a Chatswood man , 39, who allegedly behaved in a disorderly manner while waiting to board a flight to Thailand.
Officers allege the man refused to provide identification, was unsteady on his feet, smelt of liquor and became aggressive. They arrested the man, who allegedly resisted and threatened to kill them.
He was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with the following offences:
- One count of obstruction of Commonwealth Public Official, contrary to section 149.1(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth), which carries a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment;
- Two counts of threatening to cause harm to a Commonwealth Public Official, contrary to section 147.2 of the Criminal Code (Cth), which carries a maximum penalty of nine years' imprisonment; and
- One count of conduct causing public nuisance, contrary to Regulation 4BZ of the Airports (Control of On-Airport Activities) Regulation (Cth), which carries a maximum penalty of a $3300 fine.
The man was granted conditional police bail and is expected to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on 9 February, 2026.
AFP Sydney Airport Police Commander Davina Copelin said police were stationed at designated airports to protect the public and any alleged violence or threats against them was a serious offence.
"They do not deserve to be threatened or attacked," Commander Copelin said. "We have zero tolerance for anyone attempting to harm police, other Commonwealth officials, or members of the public.
"Just because someone is travelling, or on holiday, does not mean they are immune from consequences."
