Men's Health Week Special Event at Moe Library

Latrobe City Libraries are delighted to be welcoming Daniel and Luke Mancuso from the social enterprise project Yiayia Next Door to the Moe Library on Tuesday 13 June from 5.30pm. Gippsland author Scot Gardner will facilitate the discussion for this Men's Health Week special event.

When Daniel and Luke lost their beloved mother Teresa to domestic violence, the Greek grandmother next door started looking after them by passing home-cooked meals over the fence. This simple act of kindness helped Daniel and Luke navigate the fog of their grief. The story captured the hearts of Australia when the brothers started sharing Yiayia's meals and their special relationship with her on social media.

Today, Yiayia Next Door is a powerful voice in family violence education and prevention. Daniel and Luke lead by example, encouraging people to build communities where everyone feels safe, and neighbours connect and care. They work with like-minded organisations, and their products and best-selling cookbook raise awareness and much-needed funds to continue their advocacy.

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan said Daniel and Luke would be sharing their experiences in conversation with Gippsland author Scot Gardner.

"Scot is an experienced interviewer and will draw out the themes of community, kindness and warmth during the event. This evening will demonstrate the importance of the quiet support that neighbours can often provide, and the way that food can become a language that heals.

"This story is one that will touch hearts as well as reassuring the audience that community is a presence that can comfort and sustain," Cr O'Callaghan said.

This event is appropriate for an adult audience and all members of the community are welcome. Refreshments will be provided. The book 'Yiayia Next Door' will be available for purchase on the night from Reader's Emporium.
