Corangamite Shire Councillors and staff are about to take a short break over the holiday season before returning to support the community again in 2026.

The Civic Centre and Corangamite Regional Landfill will close for the afternoon from 12 pm on Friday 19 December.

Mayor Kate Makin extended warm wishes to the community for the holiday season.

"On behalf of Councillors and Council staff, I'd like to wish all residents a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year," Cr Makin said.

"This time of year means different things for different people: religious festival, school holidays, summer weather or just a time to slow down and take a breath after a busy year," Cr Makin said.

Cr Makin gave a shout-out to the front-line workers who will still be on duty.

"Council's Local Laws officers will be on call over the Christmas/New Year period for emergencies only, including livestock on Council roads, dog attacks, and wandering dogs," Cr Makin said.

"Members of our works and services teams will also be on call to respond to emergencies.

"Transfer station attendants, cleaners, visitor information centre personnel and many other staff will have the public holidays off but will be back on deck throughout the holiday period to keep those essential services running for our community.

"Thanks also to the emergency services personnel, lifeguards and other unsung workers who are still on the job while the rest of us relax."
