Mersey Community Hospital Repairs On Track Following Severe Weather

Tasmanian Government

Premier Jeremy Rockliff and Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, today visited the Mersey Community Hospital to thank staff for their exceptional work in responding to damage caused by severe weather on Friday.

The Premier said the hospital's swift and coordinated response ensured the safety and continuity of care for patients.

"Staff acted quickly and professionally to manage the impacts of the storm and to make sure patients continued to receive high-quality care," Premier Rockliff said.

"The Mersey team should be very proud of the way they managed their response, and worked together to maintain services.

"I'd also like to thank the teams at the North West Regional Hospital, Launceston General Hospital and Ambulance Tasmania for their support while less-urgent patients were temporarily diverted yesterday."

Minister Archer said remedial works are well underway, with all patient-facing areas now operational.

"Two emergency department cubicles have already been repaired, and the small section of the ED that was impacted has been reopened," Minister Archer said.

"Works are continuing on staff-only areas, ceiling and flooring repairs, and the entrance to the Antenatal Clinic.

"We'll continue to support the hospital as remedial works are finalised early next week."

Appropriate signage remains in place, and patient and visitor access has not been affected.

A Code Yellow internal emergency was declared early Friday morning and stood down at 1pm.

The hospital is no longer on bypass for Ambulance Tasmania cases.
