Elective surgeries at hospitals across the Metro North Hospital and Health Service re-commenced at 12pm today.
The decision by Metro North Hospital and Health Service to pause category 2 and 3 elective surgeries for 48 hours was made to free up pressure on our busy hospitals who were dealing with high numbers of flu and COVID patients.
During the past 48 hours, 29 surgeries were rescheduled to allow for resources to focus on delivering care to patients in Emergency Departments during the surge, while category 1 surgeries were unaffected.
I want to thank the nurses, staff and clinicians who worked tirelessly throughout this period.
We are delivering more transparency into our hospitals than ever before, just as we promised, as we deliver a fresh start for Queensland.
The former Labor Government created the Queensland Health Crisis by failing to resource and run our hospitals for a decade, leading to the worst ambulance ramping in the nation and the surgery waitlist doubled.
It will take time to heal the Queensland Health Crisis but already we're seeing ambulance ramping trending downward and our Surgery Connect Surge has delivered the biggest drop in the surgery waitlist in a decade.
