Australia's Minister for Sport, Anika Wells, will ensure our region has a strong voice at the upcoming World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) meetings in Montreal.

The Minister will attend the WADA Executive Committee and Foundation Board meetings in Montreal, Canada, this week.

The meetings bring together representatives from governments in all regions of the world and follows the successful WADA Executive Committee meeting which Minister Wells hosted in Sydney in September.

Minister Wells is also attending the meetings as Chair of the government platform known as OneVoice.

OneVoice is the government group of representatives from all five regions within WADA who meet to ensure the efficient coordination of positions on emerging anti-doping issues and other important WADA matters.

Minister Wells represents Australia and Oceania in both meetings as a Committee and Board member.

Minister Wells said the WADA meetings would highlight Australia's senior role in global anti-doping.

"The leadership position that we hold within the anti-doping community enables us to influence the response to emerging threats and issues in the anti-doping environment," Minister Wells said.

"Threats to the integrity of sport don't stop at our border. Australia must do its part internationally to ensure we protect sport together.

"Our contribution to WADA at these meetings is just one way that we can strive for a level playing field for our athletes."

The Foundation Board is WADA's highest decision-making body and approves, amongst other things, the agency's strategic direction and budget.
