Manningham has welcomed growing public and political support for scrapping Victoria's mandatory glass bin rollout, urging the Victorian Government to listen to councils and communities before locking households into unnecessary costs.
"I'm encouraged by recent media reports that the Victorian Government may be reconsidering the July 2027 deadline for councils to introduce a separate glass bin," Manningham Mayor Cr Grivas said.
"Momentum is building across Victoria. Councils, communities and stakeholders are increasingly questioning the need for a costly, state-mandated fourth bin."
Cr Grivas' comments follow a Liberal-National Coalition commitment to scrap the statewide glass-only recycling bin mandate if elected in November 2026.
Cr Grivas said Environment Minister Enver Erdogan now had an opportunity to formally respond to the growing concerns being raised across Victoria.
"The ball is now in Minister Erdogan's court. It's time to listen to councils, listen to communities and scrap the mandatory fourth-bin rollout before families are left paying more for a service they already have."
Manningham Council is leading the statewide campaign, bringing councils together to call for a more affordable and practical approach to glass recycling, including expanding the Container Deposit Scheme to include wine and spirit bottles.
