Minister Sidhu Meets UK Trade Minister

On the margins of the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Canada's Minister of International Trade, met with Chris Bryant, the United Kingdom's Minister of State (Minister for Trade).

The ministers discussed the importance of strengthening Canada-United Kingdom (UK) trade and security ties at a time of global economic uncertainty and reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing bilateral trade and investments. They noted the strong commercial opportunities for Canadian and UK businesses, especially in the defence, energy, critical minerals, emerging technologies and financial services sectors.

Ministers Sidhu and Bryant also discussed recent developments related to the UK's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the ongoing collaboration to advance the agreement's expansion, and efforts to enhance engagement between the CPTPP and EU member states.

Finally, the ministers exchanged on broader international trade priorities, including strengthened economic resilience, supply chains, defence and security investments.
