This week, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, met with Gan Kim Yong, Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry in South Africa.

During the meeting, Minister Sidhu highlighted the strong and long-standing partnership between Canada and Singapore as the 2 countries celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations this year. He reaffirmed Canada's commitment to working closely with Singapore to identify opportunities for businesses and workers in key sectors.

Minister Sidhu expressed Canada's gratitude for Singapore's continued support in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Canada free trade agreement negotiations as discussions move toward a conclusion in 2026. The agreement would provide Canadians with preferential access to the ASEAN market and strengthen trade and investment for both sides, which aligns with Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy.
