Victoria, British Columbia — Students from coast to coast to coast are passionate about protecting our oceans, lakes and waterways and ensuring that there are good jobs for their future.

As the third stop on his #OceansCampus Tour, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson visited the University of Victoria's Oceans Campus. As a part of the visit, he hosted an interactive discussion with students that focused on Canada's plan for protecting our oceans and restoring Wild Pacific Salmon.

This was the Minister's second visit to the Campus this year following the opening of the new University of Victoria Oceans and Climate Building in January. The University's new Climate Campus provides an interdisciplinary, collaborative space for world-leading research and technology development. While on campus, the Minister had the opportunity to visit Dr. Roberta Hamme's laboratory. Dr. Hamme is Canada's Research Chair in Ocean Carbon Dynamics. Her research aims at uncovering the secrets of how carbon moves through the oceans—and how this may change—leading to better future predictions of climate change.
