Resources Minister Madeleine King has led a meeting of federal, state and territory resources ministers as the Albanese Government considers ways of securing gas supplies and supporting Australia's critical minerals industry.
The fourth Resources Ministers' Roundtable in Brisbane was an opportunity for ministers to discuss the resources sector and policies to boost productivity.
Minister King said the ministers reaffirmed the development of the critical minerals sector remains a national priority for a Future Made in Australia.
The Albanese Government is currently consulting industry on a promised Critical Minerals Strategic Reserve and considering reforms to gas markets to ensure Australian homes and businesses have access to adequate and affordable supplies.
Federal, state and territory governments are committed to creating secure supply chains by building sovereign processing, refining and smelting capability in Australia.
"The resources industry is the engine room of this nation and all states and territories are determined to ensure it continues to provide for future generations of Australians," Minister King said.
"States and territories are working together to ensure the industry continues to create new jobs and wealth for all."
Minister King said the roundtable was a chance to update ministers on polices and to seek input into ways governments can ensure the sector remains strong.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Minister for Resources Senator Anthony Chisholm, Queensland Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dale Last, SA Minister for Energy and Mining Tom Koutsantonis, NT Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Mining and Energy Gerard Maley, NSW Minister for Natural Resources Courtney Houssos, WA Minister for Mines and Petroleum David Michael, and Victorian Minister for Energy and Resources Lily D'Ambrosio.
