Indonesia G20 Presidency in the field of employment officially concluded the 6th meeting of the G20 Employment Working Group (EWG Meeting). This meeting created an assessment instrument in measuring policies which recognise the persons with disabilities in each country.
"Yesterday we made agreement to which assessment instrument will be utilized. That instrument will be a set of tool to measure the extent to which each's country policy recognises the disability group," Secretary General of Ministry of Manpower, Anwar Sanusi said concluded The 6th G20 EWG Meeting di Badung, Bali, Tuesday (13/9/2022).
He explained that one of which instruments can be the number of disabled workers working in the private and public sectors. In Indonesia, this has been initiated since Law Number 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities was established, which requires employees to employ persons with disabilities at least two percent of the total number employees for the public sector and one percent for the private sector.
"We'll later evaluate this at the 2024 meeting (after 4 year of implementation), since it will clearly demonstrate the conditions of each country are," he explained.
Job creation is one of the main issues brought up the Indonesian G20 Presidency at the EWG meeting, followed up in Labor and Employment Ministers Meeting (LEMM) on Wednesday (14/9).
Anwar Sanusi highlighted that the urgency of job creation is to provide equal opportunities for the persons with disabilities, as the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the employment sector in Indonesia, persons with disabilities were the most vulnerable group.
As the advancement, Indonesia is the first country in the G20 to encourage efforts to provide affirmative environment for persons with disabilities.
"Don't let people only get enthusiastic about this issue yet there is no follow-up. Hence, I'm proud that there is an instrument which can be utilised to assess persons with disabilities policies have follow-up procedure to favour them," Anwar Sanusi said.
Another issue brought up were community based vocational training, sustainable job creation, social protection for employment in the new world of work, as well as updating the G20 skills strategy.
