Mobile phone stolen and recovered in 45 minutes, two arrested, NSW

Police Transport Command officers have arrested two teens and returned an alleged stolen phone to its owner all in 45 minutes, NSW Police say.

About 8.15pm yesterday, police will allege a 20-year-old woman was waiting outside Holsworthy Railway Station at a bus stop when she was approached by two teens.

One teen allegedly approached the woman and stole her mobile phone, while the other kept watch.

Both teens then ran from the scene.

Officers from Police Transport Command were called to the incident and commenced investigations.

The mobile phone was fitted with a location application which the officers were able to activate.

About 9pm, the officers attended a home in Holsworthy and arrested two teens aged 15 and 14.

Both were taken to Liverpool Police Station and were interviewed in relation to the incident.

The two teens are expected to be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

The mobile phone was recovered at the home and later returned to its owner.

Police Transport Commander – South / South West, Superintendent Dave Roptell said the arrest of two offenders and recovery of the mobile phone – all in 45 minutes – was a credit to the professionalism of my officers.

“Part of the reason this was solved so quickly was the mobile phone was fitted with a location application.”

“To help the police assist you, I highly recommend all electronic devices are secured to help locate and prevent use if stolen.” said Supt Roptell.
