Money Won't Change Me: Wangaratta $1M Lotto Winner

In a stroke of good fortune, a Wangaratta man became a millionaire over the weekend, securing a division one prize in Saturday Lotto's draw 4397 on September 9, 2023.

The man, who has opted to remain anonymous, won a total prize of $1 million and joins nine other winners across Australia in the division one category. Remarkably, this is the second major lotto win in the region in just two weeks, following a Myrtleford man's $2.5 million windfall on Father's Day. Another $1 million winner in this draw was a Cowra man from NSW who says he is setting his sights on an early retirement.

Despite his sudden wealth, this jubilant winner plans to continue working.

"Some people might say I'm crazy for continuing to work after I've won the lotto, but at the end of the day, money won't change me. Perhaps, I’ll put it in the bank for six months and think about it...," he said.

The man discovered his good fortune a few days after the draw, as the only phone number linked to his player card was disconnected.

"Woah, I’m just so shocked," he exclaimed upon finding unread emails from the lotto officials informing him of a potential win. Initially believing he had won a lesser amount, he soon realized he had secured the division one prize.

The winning ticket was a 12-game QuickPick (randomly generated) purchased at Wang Lucky Lotto, Shop 2, 18 Ryley Street, Wangaratta. Liung Lim, the owner of Wang Lucky Lotto, expressed his excitement over the win, stating it's the first division one entry sold at his outlet in almost seven years. "There’s no doubt this is the start of a winning streak for us," he said.

Saturday Lotto's draw created ten new millionaires, with winners hailing from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and the Australian Capital Territory. The Division One Prize Pool totaled a staggering $10 million. The winning numbers were 11, 9, 14, 29, 7, and 15, with supplementary numbers 17 and 23.
